Highlights from the 72nd Pct. Council Monthly Meeting- Tuesday, 3/13

In case you weren't able to attend...

As it is the case throughout NYC, iPhone/iPad/iPod theft- related assaults are on the rise throughout the 72nd. Most assaults have taken place near subway exits and on congested commercial strips. Please report (718.965.6311) all incidents, even if it resulted in an attempted assault and you were able to hold on to your property. A number of people have been physically hurt, as well as lost their gadgets.
The 72nd Pct. is stepping up enforcement of laws that prohibit motorized vehicles (cars, motorcycles, motor scooters, mopeds) on sidewalks. This applies whether they're stationary or moving.
The huge increase of so-called "electric" bikes traveling at up to 25 miles/hour on Sunset Park sidewalks and disregarding pedestrians/strollers/senior citizens, as well as traveling against traffic on city streets has caught the attention of the 72nd Pct. An enforcement strategy against such illegal practices is being formulated and will be put into practice in the near future. If you know someone guilty of either practice, please give them the heads-up. Also, please remind those businesses delivering to you to ask their bike delivery staff to be mindful.
Since the beginning of 2012, over 225 tickets for double-parking on 4th Avenue have been issued in response to the rise of accidents and delays in 2011.

On a different, but related, issue discussed at the meeting- Attendees were encouraged to call 311, or the nearest NY Fire Dept. station, to report businesses or residential buildings where motorized vehicles (motorcycles, motor scooters, mopeds) with gas tanks are stored overnight in store fronts and/or basements This practice is illegal both because it is a fire hazard and an environmental hazard. You can remain anonymous.

NEXT 72ND PRECINCT COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING
WILL TAKE PLACE ON TUESDAY (2ND TUESDAY OF THE MONTH)
AT 7:30 PM- MARION HEIM SENIOR HOUSING COMPLEX
4520 4TH AVENUE  BETWEEN 45TH/46TH STREETS
