❀ cleaning up the playground by requesting more attention from the Parks Department and educating users through a multilingual handout with ideas on how everyone can help in keeping it clean and safe for all.
❀ recruiting the assistance of the 72nd Precinct Auxiliary Police to lock the Playground gates at 10 p.m. during the summer to reduce the amount of garbage (paper, cans and bottles/glass, "etc.") being generated by young and older adults using the playground late at night and overnight. Park Staff and/or a Playground Comm. point person will open-up in the morning. Use of the playground by adults also burdens the structural integrity of the equipment and speeds up surface (splinting, painting, mats) breakdown.
Many other "funner" activities were talked about this morning, however consensus was easily reached over cleanliness and safety being the most important issues to address first. There will be many opportunities for Parents and Guardians to volunteer their skills, ideas and time for the improvement of our marvelous park via the Park Playground Committee of the Friends of Sunset Park.
Welcome all!
